Kieryn J. McCann is a disabled, genderqueer/aporagender/”jestegender” novelty who uses the neopronouns per/pers/pers and thon/thon/thons which sounds like, “Per needs per coffee per’ll mak it perself in the month that's pers.” or “Thon needs thon's coffee thon'll make it thonself in a month that's thons.” Kieryn is a parent, poet, and activist [light-hearted] in that order. Originally, Kieryn is from the Greater Kansas City, Kansas area, attended Catholic schools for six years as a non-Catholic, and pursued ministry at the United Methodist Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, Kansas before religious trauma and per unactualized facets of identity resulted in a sudden departure from organized religion. Thon graduated from Piper High School and attended McPherson College as a Presidential Scholar and winner of the Jump Start Kansas Entrepreneurship Scholarship in 2013.
Per is easiest to spot in a crowd with thons preschooler perched on per shoulders, though you may also recognize thon from Ad Astra’s Open Mic Poetry Night, per initiatives like “Windows & Mirrors Media Club” or most recently, McPherson County’s sixth annual Pride celebration. Since 2020, Kieryn has been a grassroots organizer in McPherson, including an independent zero-budget bid for McPherson City Commissioner of Public Land and Facilities in 2023. Thon’s campaign emphasized sustainable stewardship and neighborliness. Per began volunteering with McPherson Coalition for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity in 2022 as the Equity Director. Now, Kieryn serves as President of the same non-profit, operating under its new name: McPherson Social Outreach League (“McPherson SOuL”).
